EU Lawmakers Approve 90% Emissions Reduction Target by 2040
The European Union has established a legally binding climate target to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by 90% compared to 1990 levels by 2040. This ambitious goal, agreed upon in December 2025, represents a significant step toward EU climate neutrality by 2050 and includes provisions for up to 5% of reductions to come from international carbon credits.
